As we celebrate Christmas, it is important that we understand the true miracle of the Birth.
As my daughter approaches 2 years old (She is now just over 22 months) everyday I gaze into her eyes as she sits next to me looking at television programs and learning to repeat some of the things she sees. I'm amazed of how quickly she has grown and just how smart she's become. She is a button presser, pressing everything from computer keyboards, remote control, television buttons, and my ipod player. She tries to snap photos using the digital camera, and she sings almost every song she hears. To think that her munificence stems back to a birth just under 2 years ago and understanding my commitment as a teacher in her life to guide her through her many phases and to teach her right and wrong, so that she in turn can continue the journey of life building her own kingdom even after my duties have moved on.
It is easy to commit to the growth and development of your child, but the true test of the world is to channel that commitment to the Birth and development of all children. This my friend is the true lesson of Christmas. It is the birth of the Child. It is greater than Mother's Day, or Father's Day. It is the most unselfish day of the year that is why it is symbolized with such immense giving of gifts. Every child every where around the world should have a Merry Christmas however small it may be.
And I know of small Christmases, after all I grew up in poverty in the small island of Grenada, but we still had Christmas gifts.
Birth is a personal thing, we've all experienced, and none of us could not have grown up alone with out the gifts and assistance of parents and our communities. We should not expect therefore than any child in this Global environment should be left alone to fight off poverty in an inadequate environment.
Everyday we experience birth, whether its in our own lives or in the lives of others. Recently I decided to go back to University to achieve my MBA. I witnessed the Birth of my first class and met my professor who will guide me through my growth process. My workplace paid for my class and hence this professor's job was to teach me. He received his reward for teaching me from this University that received payment from my workplace. Could you see how complicated but connected all the channels of life is? In this case my quest for an MBA is my Birth experience. My workplace is like the community or my parents that pays for my MBA. My teacher is like a stranger assigned to me to ensure that I get the knowledge to achieve my MBA. My professor doesn't know that my workplace paid his university for my education, but he knows that he has been paid to perform this duty of giving me knowledge. Fortunately, this is something he enjoys doing and he is committed to do it.
I can receive all the knowledge and care and attention that is required to achieve my MBA but in the end my success depends on my commitment to achieve the goal of my MBA.
To conclude all that is required of us, is to love and support the Birth where ever it may be. We can hope that with the love and commitment that we give that each child will grow up to build and enhance the kingdom of the world and make it a place where supreme love reigns and benefit all mankind.
On Christmas Day, three wise men found the Baby as he lay in a manger, and showered Him with gifts and praises. They knew that given the love and commitment that He will be the ultimate living example for others to follow. Why don't you become the wise man in someone else's life?
