I made my New Year's Resolution to eliminate negative thoughts in my life. What in fact I ended up doing is preserving the sacred joy within me. To go day by day preserving that joy is a challenge, but I'm up to it. It is like a game and knowledge of the rules bring success.
Often enough the people we are closest to may provide the greatest test to us preserving our joy. Preserving your joy is not as simple as saying I won't be angry and I won't linger on negative thoughts. If it were then this world will be peaceful and there won't be stressed out all the time.
The first step towards preserving the sacred joy within is to set a benchmark. I've used my daughter as my benchmark. She is just about to turn 2 years old. You may wonder why I've chose a child to be my benchmark? The answer is I give unconditional love, and she challenges this love everyday and even when I'm challenged by her I smile and hug her most of the times, sometimes I choose to ignore her.
My happiness is her happiness and her happiness is my happiness. When I'm happy I preserve the sacred joy within me, and when she is happy I feel like I'm doing the greatest work of mankind.
Armed with the knowledge of keeping my child happy and preserving my happiness, I can now deal with the challenges of maintaining my happiness around adults who are not very happy and who go out of their way to see to it that others are just as miserable as they are.
To conclude I see my benchmark in everyone, which is the child I love, and treat everyone the same way I will treat her, and in so doing I preserve the sacred joy within me.
